JOHN HUBBARD RICH Biography |

Painter, Illustrator. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 5, 1876. At an early age Rich moved with his family to Minneapolis and later attended art classes at night while working in the day as an illustrator for the Minneapolis Times. In 1898, he began a four-year study period at the Art Students League in New York City followed by three years at the school of the Boston Museum. While studying in Boston, he was awarded a two-year traveling scholarship to Europe. After returning to Boston, he taught art at University of Southern California and for 28 years at Otis Institute. In his studio in the Hollywood Hills he produced portraits, figure studies, still lifes, and flower studies. Rich died in Los Angeles on March 30,1954.
